About SOS Environnement Action Mali
An organization committed to environmental protection and sustainable development in Mali.
SOS Environnement Action Mali (SEAM) is a non-partisan, non-profit Malian association created to address the growing environmental challenges facing communities in Mali. Founded by Béguelé CISSOUMA, the association works to protect natural resources, promote climate justice and strengthen citizen participation in environmental governance. Its ambition is to eventually become a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) in order to broaden its impact across the entire national territory.
Our commitment rests on a simple conviction: protecting the environment is a collective responsibility. By working with communities, public authorities, civil society organizations, the media, researchers and the private sector, we help build sustainable, inclusive solutions grounded in reliable data.
Our history
An organization born from the will to act concretely
SEAM was born from the desire to set up an organization capable of acting concretely in the face of environmental challenges, while fostering transparency, accountability and dialogue among the various development actors.
From its earliest initiatives, the association directed its work toward environmental monitoring, mining governance, climate justice and the strengthening of local communities' capacities. This approach took shape through the implementation of the project "For Effective Mining Accountability in Mali", which helped develop a community monitoring network, document environmental impacts and strengthen dialogue with local authorities in the commune of Naréna.

Our approach
An integrated approach
SEAM develops an integrated approach that combines:
- Field data collection through community relays
- The use of civic technologies (Civic Tech)
- Mapping and digital monitoring
- Awareness-raising and capacity building
- Mediation and dialogue between stakeholders
- Advocacy based on scientific evidence and field observations
Our organization
Three complementary bodies
To ensure effective governance, SEAM is structured around three complementary bodies.
The General Assembly
The supreme decision-making body, it defines strategic orientations and elects the members of the National Executive Board.
The National Executive Board
It ensures the day-to-day management of the association: President, Project Manager, Secretary for Digital Monitoring and GIS, Administrative Secretary, Liaison and Advocacy Officer, Treasurer.
The Monitoring and Verification Committee
It guarantees the quality of the data collected and ensures the reliability of the technical reports produced by the association.
Our commitment
We believe that environmental protection can only be sustainable if it rests on citizen participation, transparency of information, collaboration among stakeholders and the pursuit of solutions suited to local realities.
Through our awareness-raising, training, environmental monitoring and advocacy activities, we help strengthen the resilience of communities and promote development that respects the environment and future generations.
Protecting our environment is a collective duty. Every citizen, every community and every institution has an essential role to play in preserving our natural resources. Through SOS Environnement Action Mali, we aim to bring energies together, promote dialogue and turn field data into concrete actions to build a more resilient, more responsible and more sustainable Mali.
